About Hugo's House

Hugo's House is a regular dog-loving home - not a kennel. Dogs who stay at Hugo's House are cared for as if they were at home. Long time room-mates Corae and Ellen offer owners peace of mind, and dogs a home away from home. There are no children in this home - just cats - it is important that your dog is good with cats.

Corae owns a young female rottweiler named PIA and she is already almost two! PIA is her 4th rotten rott and we both love the breed. So if you are considering Hugo's House for your dog, it's important you are comfortable with rottweilers. PIA and Corae have attended obedience classes with Forbidden Plateau Tracking & Obedience Club & Canine Conduct, agility classes at TailBlazers, and she is shown. PIA has been very busy and recently acquired the Canine Good Neighbour Title as well as her Championship Title in confirmation. PIA has also been on dog adventure walks with Go Dog Go to keep her nicely socialized. Photos of PIA can be found here: http://picasaweb.google.ca/coraeb/PrincessPIA#slideshow

Dogs who stay at Hugo's House go for a morning walk with PIA and Corae. Then Corae is off to work and your dog will be at home with Ellen. Your dog will often have another short walk in the afternoon with Ellen. Your dog will almost never be alone. We takes dogs out in a truck with a secure, ventilated canopy and always have water. Of course exercise and walks are adjusted accordingly for senior dogs.

On wintery or rainy days, dogs are mostly in the house. PIA tells us that she will melt in the rain. On nice fall/spring and summer days, dogs play mostly outside in the large, fenced yard. There is a ramp for dogs who cannot manoeuvre stairs well, lots of toys and of course a fire hydrant! Dogs sleep in the house at night on their own bed, blanket or crate (if your dog is crate trained). PIA sleeps in her crate.

We have limited space for bookings as we prefer to have just one dog visiting on top of PIA - unless they are from the same family. So the most dogs we have at any time is three, but we prefer two! In this way your dog gets lots of individual attention. If you know your dates now, check out the Doggy Bookings page to make sure we aren't already booked.

It is important that you let us know if your dog has been known "to bite", is a "barker", "gate runner", "fence jumper", "doesn't like men", is "food aggressive", shows "aggression with skateboards", has "separation anxiety" etc...  Please make sure that we have discussed any extreme behaviour issues and/or you have outlined them in your application. All dogs have their issues, but if your dog has any behaviour issues that may be a cause for concern please let me know. I would like to point out that we have a fair bit of dog sense and lots of experience but do not profess to be dog trainers - just dog lovers.  Hugo's House is a social, happy home, for social, happy dogs!

Sounding good so far?....Well then check out the bookings calendar on the Doggy Bookings page, email us for the application/questionnaire and then bring your pooch over to Hugo's House to meet the pretty Princess PIA and the kitties. Short notice stays are only accepted for regular/repeat client/dogs.

At Hugo's House we use Inner Harmony Healing's Rescue Remedy for stressed/anxious dogs, and we use only biodegradable doggy bags.

A note on vaccinations: Vaccinations for adult dogs are not required as we believe this is a personal decision.  Owners take their own risks, and make their own choices regarding vaccinations.  PIA had her full series of puppy vaccinations and is treated with homoeopathic meds for kennel cough every few months.
